Winemaking
The Zinfandel grapes for the 2013 Proprietor’s Reserve Zinfandel were sourced from different sections within Pura Vitis Vineyard. Picked on October 12th, 21st, and 23rd, the resulting variation in flavor ripeness added complexity to the final blend. After whole berry processing, a combination of various yeast strains were inoculated, followed by a treatment of thrice daily punch-downs or twice daily pump-overs depending on the fermentation. Nine barrels were originally filled, with a blend of only 4 making the final blend. The wine spent 8 months barrel aging with 33% new oak
Tasting Notes
The nose leads off with more traditional Zinfandel flavors like the sweet and tartness of Braeburn apple and cooked plum, with undertones of black cherry pie, earthy teas, cedar, and exotic oak spices. The palate is soft and fruit forward on entry, presenting pomegranate, blueberry, and black tea, before the more subtle flavors of American oak and anise express themselves prior the finish.
Pair with heavier cheeses, gourmet pizza, roasted vegetables, roasted chicken or hearty salads . Decant while young.
