Winemaking
Blend consists of Zinfandel from three different portions of the vineyard, harvested between the dates October 12th and October 23rd. Once at the winery, the grapes were de-stemmed as whole berries and set for an overnight cold soak. Inoculation followed the next morning, with twice daily pump overs or thrice daily punch downs, depending on the fermentation. Pressing occurred when the desired level of tannins had been reached, regardless of sugar level. Blending occurred in December with an accentuating oak treatment in April.
Tasting Notes
a dry American style Zinfandel. Aromas of fuji apple, plum, sage, cedar, and toasted coconut, followed by a full palate of dried cherries, blueberries, currants, caramel, and exotic oak spice, with a finish of white pepper, cumquat, and seed tannin. The entire wine is accentuated with a cranberry sauce note that carries from the sweet nose to the tart finish. While not made in the late harvest style that was the big and bold Zenful Zin of 2008, this Zinfandel is a much more complex and elegant expression of the grape. Pair with typical American dishes like pizza and hamburgers; this wine will also hold up to stronger cheeses and BBQ dishes.
